Urashima Tarō – A Transitonal Tale

After a sell-out Puppet Festival performance in Buxton Opera House’s new Pavilion Arts Centre, local based Community Interest Company Funny Wonders Inc. are offering people a chance to work closely with its team of professional artists in developing its most recent performance.

Project Manager Laurie Agnew said “These free workshops will give a valuable insight into the way professional artists with different backgrounds work in collaboration with each other ”.

Funny Wonders Inc. affectionately known as FWinc also want to offer people who participate in this free professional development workshops the opportunity to work with them in the future. FWinc plan to take various performances and workshops, including their latest piece - 'Urashima Tarō – A Transitonal Tale’ into schools across the East Midlands and North West.

FWinc created ‘Urashima Tarō – A Transitonal Tale’ in collaboration with Transition Buxton who are a local group that forms part of the international Transition Network. With the working title of MiST (Music in Shadow Theatre) the piece was inspired by a traditional Japanese tale and has a live soundtrack created using recycled instruments. Using shadow puppetry and music, the story explores modern lifestyles and how we could create a sustainable, fairer and more satisfying world.
